Kim Capsas holds BA and MM degrees in piano performance from the University of South Florida as a recipient of both the undergraduate Zbar piano scholarship and the Graduate Council Fellowship. She continued doctoral research (DMA) at the University of Colorado in Boulder where she held a graduate assistantship and part time teaching appointment for three years. Trained as a concert pianist, she debuted with the Florida Orchestra (formerly Gulf Coast Symphony) at age 15, performing the western hemisphere premier of the Rubinstein D minor Piano Concerto in three concerts. Ms. Capsas has won state, national, and international piano competitions, including the prestigious Concerts Atlantique International Competition where she was chosen from over 1400 well qualified applicants worldwide to be featured in solo recitals in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ms. Capsas performs as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician and is an accomplished church organist, recently completing a tour of organs in Spain. Kim is the Minister of Music at Messiah Lutheran Church in Tampa where she directs choirs, leads contemporary band, conducts five octave handbell choir, and directs instrumental ensembles. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Florida Music Teachers Association, the Mid State Music Teachers Association, as well as President of Concert Club of Tampa, and Counselor of Piano Performers Junior Musicale Club, both nationally federated clubs, and the American Guild of Organists.
Ms. Capsas is a frequent adjudicator for Federated Music Clubs and Florida Music Teachers Association District Concerto Competitions. She has over 40 years experience teaching private and group classes in piano, organ, and music theory to children and adults, from beginners through coaching concert pianists preparing for international competition.
